From Waste to Worth: How Accurec Helps Shape Europe’s Battery Future

It is the daily business of recycling companies such as BeyondBattRec partner Accurec: they monitor the flow of worn-out lithium-ion batteries – discarded power sources from cars, laptops, and tools. And of course, these are not waste. They are raw beginnings. What once powered a device can power change – if recycled smartly. And that’s precisely the vision behind BeyondBattRec.

A Project That Matches Our Purpose

When Accurec joined the BeyondBattRec consortium, it wasn’t just about aligning with European research goals. It felt like the ideal fit. For over two decades, Accurec has been pushing the boundaries of sustainable battery recycling. But with BeyondBattRec, we saw the chance to go further – to help define what next-generation recycling should look like.

Accurec joined the BeyondBattRec consortium to enhance the overall recycling of the EoL batteries by improving the pre-treatment for the de-activation and safe processing of LIBs as well as increasing the recovery rates of the CRM. Additionally, there is special focus on the dismantling and data management of the battery packs to promote a better use of resoruces and to provide essential inputs for the overall recycling chain.
This isn’t about small efficiency gains. It’s about a leap forward.

Innovation Rooted in Responsibility

Innovation is exciting, but responsibility gives it meaning. At Accurec, BeyondBattRec challenges us not only to innovate technically, but to collaborate ethically. With academic partners, startups, and policy makers, we’re co-creating solutions that are scalable, compliant with new EU battery regulations, and ready for industrial application.
Each breakthrough we make isn’t just an achievement for our lab – it’s a step toward a circular economy.

Recycling the Past, Empowering the Future

In many ways, batteries represent stored potential – not just electrical, but ecological. BeyondBattRec helps us unlock that potential. And for Accurec, it is a chance to consolidate and push furhter the work carried out in the recent years: robust, efficient and sustainable recycling of LIBs batteries targeting the recovery rates defined by the European directives.
